SUMMARY:Being Black in America: Discussion & Collective Action - Legacy Drama House
DESCRIPTION:What is it to YOU to be Black in America? This is a question we posed to seven Black Americans in our award-winning documentary\, Being Black in America. \nFilmed in 2024\, Being Black in America shows an array of different thoughts and attitudes behind Blackness and what it means to everyone on a personal level by asking one central question\, What does being Black in America mean to you? \nThis is not your ordinary screening. This is a bridge-building\, thought-provoking\, and an organizing event using film as a catalyst for change. Immediately following our screening\, we’ll hear from storytellers featured in the film\, followed by a Q&A as well as community-engaged entrepreneurs\, community leaders\, and educators to participate as a collective in an action item of our choosing. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Be sure to arrive early when doors open at 3pm to participate in a one-question survey that will be a part of our discussion after the film.

SUMMARY:Black Alt Undefined - Reception + Talk
DESCRIPTION:🎉 NEW INSTALLATION! 🎉\nBlack Alt Undefined is HERE on Saturday\, 11/22 at 2-5pm! Come see the images of the incredible people that I got to work with and hear about the process that went into this passion project as part of my regional residency with @visualstudiesworkshop.\n“Black Alt Undefined” is a photography project that pairs quotes and images of Black folks defining for themselves what Black Alt means to them.\nThe goal of this project is to not place anyone in a box or paint the group with a broad brush by trying to define the term—it’s to show other Black folx who may or may not understand that they don’t have to be confined to an arbitrary idea of who Black folks should be.\nYou’ll have a chance to observe the project + hear more about the process in a lecture during the event.
